On Friday, Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of “culpable homicide,” one day after he was found not guilty of murder in the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. (He will remain out of jail until his sentencing hearing begins  on Oct. 13.) Regardless of the sentence, as William Saletan wrote in…

By all means look back and work out why certain things went wrong but once you have done so you should forget about them once and for all. Each day is different and each day brings new possibilities, so live for today, and in the moment.

It may feel like you are losing something that is precious to you but when you realize what the future has in store – as you will do any day now – your hankering after what you lost will soon be forgotten. The future is where it’s at.
